Techniques To Propel Your Social Network Status

6 Oct
2008

In this video, TuxedoJericho asks how to best propel your status on social networks.  While there is no silver bullet to make this happen, here are three techniques to increase your clout:  1.  Participate  2.  Passion  3.  Courtesy.  These three traits will most likely increase your recognition in your favorite social network, but are not guaranteed to work.  I do these things but I also exhibit my personality which some people like and some people don’t.  This is a hard question to answer and ultimately, it depends on many factors.  I will say, you employ the three things I mention in this video, it definitely can not hurt your situation.  Hope this answered your question.

Pretty good and simple advice. Unfortunately there are so many (popular) social networks out there it really makes my head spin. Are there any specific networks you'd recommend for a social network n00b like me if you have somewhat of a generic passion for technology? PC software, PC games, cool websites and software tools, Google, blogging, etc… You know me and I think you have a pretty good idea of the sort of things I'm interested in. What social network(s) would you recommend I look into?

I think the most important out of your three points Bwana was the participation. After all you should probably participate in a social network in general. Am i right? By participating your name/brand will pop up in more places more frequently and in general should elivate your social networking status. I think it's also important that you keep profile information updated within a social network so people don't just see old and choose to move on to a different profile. Make your profile attractive so that people will continually return to your profile and eventually elivate your social networking status.

Wow, that's a hard question to answer. FriendFeed and Facebook stand out as the most robust imho but they're not for everyone. Social networking is a trial and error process, and it's hard to find the right one the first time. FriendFeed rooms and Facebook groups may be a good starting point, but that doesn't mean they're the ones. Hope that helps.
