But are video comments an open technology? With text, I know that my comment can be read by every person on the web. Video, on the other hand, is a patent-restricted technology. Most sites use Flash, which requires an agreement with Adobe, while even Mpeg-4 requires a usage-fees and a license agreement with the MPEG consortium. I would like to see more use of Ogg Theora being used, since this is the only video framework where the encoding and decoding software can be freely distributed.
