In this video, I walk through the new features of FriendFeed which where announced on 04/06/2009. This new version, which is in beta, has completely changed the way we use FriendFeed. When you first log in, you’ll notice the site is in real-time. What does that mean? It means that updates are displayed as they are posted in a constant river of information. FriendFeed also added direct messaging, keyboard shortcuts, cross posting, and my favorite: Filters. In this video, I show some of my favorite filters that I’ve created and their results. I encourage you to try to the FriendFeed beta, and if you do, follow me at: http://friendfeed.com/bwana. Enjoy!

Rah, the FriendFeed DMs are far more powerful than the Twitter-style inbox. Think of them as open conversations: Not only can you address a DM to five different people, you can also tag a few names onto a public post you’re putting out and then you can be sure that the right people will see the post and be drawn into the comment thread.
Edit: If FF had introduced DMs that worked exactly like Twitter’s, I’d probably join you in opposing them.

Yeah, now that I see how they implemented the DM’s, I can’t really complain. We’ve always wanted a way to ping someone when you post something. Pretty cool stuff.
