This firmware was released late August 31, 2009 to the masses and has received mixed reactions so far. It includes a revamped “What’s New” section, a brand new “tiled” interface, a new status area, a revamped friends list, and support for dynamic/animated themes. Most of the changes are visual and cosmetic, but I believe the new tiled interface should be spread throughout the entire interface. On the downside, I believe the friends list changes stick out like a sore thumb. They don’t match the look and feel of the rest of XMB. Overall, firmware 3.0 takes the Playstation 3 another step closer to the ultimate experience. There are some other obstacles to overcome, but they are certainly attainable. Congratulations Sony on a successful release.
