In this video, I discuss where we’re going with digital entertainment in the home. According to an article on Engadget, more homes have a console in the house than those which have a cable box. 2% more households have a game console than those with a settop box. As we look at some of the features that are being opened in our gaming consoles, it seems that the industry has recognized the potential and are making strides to take advantage of it. In this video, I give my thoughts on the range of opinions regarding RIM’s new BlackBerry Storm.  The Storm is RIM’s first touch screen BlackBerry and is directly targeted at challenging Apple’s iPhone.    It’s puzzling to see such a polarized view of the device.   I believe it’ll sell well but I think Apple will retain the aesthetics factor.  One of the things that Verizon did with the Storm is that they priced AFTER a $50 Mail-In rebate.  I think this is foolish and pretty cheap especially since a major rebate company just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.  I hope for Verizon’s sake that BlackBerry Storm rebate checks do not bounce.  Overall, I’m hoping the BlackBerry storm succeeds and sells well so Apple can continue to innovate and not become lazy.  Competition is good for us.  Enjoy!

In this video, I talk about the results of Apple’s Q4 2008 Earnings call where Steve Jobs stated a couple of things: #1, Apple outsold RIM (makers of the Blackberry) last quarter, and #2, Apple is now the #3 suppier of mobile phones in the world (second to Nokia and Samsung).  This news is huge as Apple only entered the market less than 2 years ago!  I was more shocked by the news that they’ve surpassed Motorola, LG, and others as mobile phone suppliers, so fast.  Also, to outsell your biggest competitor, RIM, in a tough smartphone market is a tough task as well.  I congratulate Apple and I’m getting that same feeling I had when the iPod started to take off.  Somebody better do something before Apple completely takes over the mobile phone market.  Thanks for watching.

In this video, I answer WizzKid’s (http://twitter.com/WizzKid) request on Twitter to state my thoughts on Apple’s updates to their notebooks, namely, the MacBook and MacBook Pro.  Without going into the details of the new machines, I’ll say that overall I was a little impressed with the updates, but not completely blown away.  I’m happy that Apple has found a new manufacturing process to make the MacBooks and MacBook Pros sturdier.  The glossy screen is a turn-off for me personally, since I prefer the old school matte screens.  The glass trackpad (or mini iPhone as I call it) is a nice addition and Apple made a bold move by removing the one and only mouse button.  The entire mousepad is a button.  I’m not going to get one of these new MacBooks [Pros] because I don’t have the means and if I did, I don’t think there’s enough to warrant another investment.  The good thing about Macs is that they retain their value for a long time and when I bought my current MacBook Pro, I planned on at least a 5 year cycle.  Hope this answers your question WizzKid

In this video, TuxedoJericho asks how to best propel your status on social networks.  While there is no silver bullet to make this happen, here are three techniques to increase your clout:  1.  Participate  2.  Passion  3.  Courtesy.  These three traits will most likely increase your recognition in your favorite social network, but are not guaranteed to work.  I do these things but I also exhibit my personality which some people like and some people don’t.  This is a hard question to answer and ultimately, it depends on many factors.  I will say, you employ the three things I mention in this video, it definitely can not hurt your situation.  Hope this answered your question.

In this video, I give an overview of what DNS Cache Poisoning.  Bwana.TV member, TuxedoJericho requested this topic in the Bwana.TV group on geeks.pirillo.com.  First off, the textbook definition:  “DNS cache poisoning is a maliciously created or unintended situation that provides data to a Domain Name Server that did not originate from authoritative DNS sources.”  Confused?  Probably.  What this means is that DNS Cache Poisoning fools your computer to take you to malicious sites instead of where you intended to go.  For example, if you want to go www.paypal.com and your DNS cache is poisoned, you could end up at a different site built to harvest your username and password and ultimately steal your information.  To protect yourself from DNS cache poisoning, contact your ISP and ensure they are patched against all current exploit.  If you or they are unsure, setup OpenDNS which is a free service that is currently secure and also gives you other benefits that I’m sure you could benefit from.  I use OpenDNS here at Bwana.TV headquarters and I highly encourage you to visit their site and educate yourself on how to set it up.  Enjoy!

In this video, I discuss the change Twitter has gone through over the past 4 months.  I give a background on my decision to leave Twitter indefinitely due to their seemingly lack of interest in the instant messaging and track features of the service.  Over the past few weeks, Twitter has received a great deal of praise on keeping their system more stable than in times past.  I went on record to say this was due to their decision to completely disable instant messaging and track.  Last week, I came to the realization that the track capability of Twitter is not coming back.  I’ve realized that the track capability cannot be globally rolled out with the current implementations of microblogging software.  So in this video, I explain this, and also my decision to return to Twitter to try to find a new way to utilize it without track.  Enjoy.
