In this video, I discuss where we’re going with digital entertainment in the home. According to an article on Engadget, more homes have a console in the house than those which have a cable box. 2% more households have a game console than those with a settop box. As we look at some of the features that are being opened in our gaming consoles, it seems that the industry has recognized the potential and are making strides to take advantage of it. I share my thoughts on what I believe were some great exclusives for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 and which platform did better .. IN MY OPINION. This is not fact and I’m sure your opinion will differ. This is why I’m posing the question to you: What were your favorite exclusives for 2009 and why? First off, there are several solutions available that I most likely won’t cover in this video (sadly, all the comments I get will disregard this statement), but here are just some you can use. Before we go on, you need to know is that there are three solution areas to consider: Hardware, software and audio. Hardware solutions are the Proview XLR http://bit.ly/10TU34 ($100), Pinnacle Dazzle http://bit.ly/pCaPB (~ $100) or a high quality HD Capture card like the Black Magic Intensity Pro http://bit.ly/NCijD ($200). Software solutions include Camtwist http://bit.ly/11yeZL (Free) and Wirecast http://bit.ly/aVQsi ($450). Finally, for audio, you can do software emulation with Audio HiJack Pro http://bit.ly/Gdp2U ($32) with a built in mic/headset or go the hardware route with a mixer such as the Behringer Xenyx 508 http://bit.ly/1n2Z3x ($30 – $60). On top of that you can buy a cheap lapel mic or go for a higher quality condenser mic. These are all solutions to get your Xbox 360 recorded and streamed. There’s more to the configuration details of all this, but this should be more than enough to get you started.

In this video, I do a quick comparison review of the new game, Battlefield 1943. Battlefield 1943 is available on both Xbox Live and Playstation Network, so naturally a lot of users are curious as to the differences. In my limited time playing the game, I’ve found a few subtle differences but nothing to panic about. I had trouble picking a platform to buy it for since it came down to controller, community, and overall personal preference. What Game Answers does is allow gamers to submit questions about their favorite games. The community would then answer their questions and the associated answers can be rated up or down. The format is very similar to Yahoo Answers where a knowledge base is built around community. My impressions of the site are favorable but I fear that it could be a breeding ground for flame wars. Gamers tend to be passionate about their products, especially if the question is opinionated. It’s going to be interesting to see how it all pans out and if it will do what Game Fly intended. In this video, I answer a question from Todd in Arkansas: “Aloha: My name is Todd from Arkasnas.  Anyway I like your web site, I found it thru you tube!  Very cool.  I have a PS3 connected on the internet (wired).  I have no idea how to get music, pics, or I guess stream from my pc to PS3?  Do u have any videos on this?  I also see on my PS3 Driectvpc or something like that.  What is that?” First off, that DirectvPC on your PS3 is your DirecTV but you can’t do anything with the media since DirecTV has DRM which prevents that. To answer your main question, I suggest 1 of 3 ways to get media to your PS3. #1 – Get a USB drive and copy data to it. Plug the USB drive in your PS3 and it’ll appear as a source. You can then just copy and move files. #2 – Build a custom web server on your computer. You can then access this server via your PS3 web browser to save files. There are several options for setting up a web server such as Apache and IIS (PWS). This is a more advanced solution but it is very flexible. For videos, make sure you use software such as Redkawa’s http://redkawa.com PS3 Video 9 to convert to a format that you know the PS3 will play. #3 – Buy software such as Nullriver’s MediaLink http://www.nullriver.com if you have a Mac. It ties into iTunes, iPhoto and offers HD video streaming. You can also install software such as PlayOn where you can stream Netflix video and watch videos from Hulu.com. As you can see, there are a ton of options, so I recommend using the one you feel works best for you. Hope this helps Todd!

In this video, I discuss trophies (achievements) on the PS3. Sony has announced that trophies will now be available online in your PSN profile. Sony has been way behind in the area of console gaming as the Xbox 360 has had this feature for years. Now, finally, Sony has given PS3 users the ability to display their trophies online.
