<p> When I sold my 1st generation iPhone, the main thing I worried about was my private data. There are couple of ways to do this. The first way is built into the iPhone under Settings. From there you can dive into the reset settings and tell it to erase all content and settings. This is a quick way to wipe your data. It&#8217;s not a secure wipe of the data so if someone reaaaally wanted your data, they could retrieve it. I would remove your old SIM card as well. If your iPhone is jailbroken, there are tools in QuickPwn and PwnageTool which can do a full partition wipe (with multi-pass) and it is secure. Your data will definitely be gone from the iPhone. That&#8217;s pretty much it musicfuse, thanks for the question.</p>

<p> There are a few issues to consider with this question. The main reason why people are asking for an official video recording app is because it shouldn&#8217;t require a jailbreak to do this. Apple should make it available for the general consumer out of the box. I also believe Apple&#8217;s implementation will be seamless and work better than the current solutions. It takes some know-how to get the current solutions up and running and I don&#8217;t feel comfortable sharing it with non-technical users. In short, it&#8217;s not for the average consumer. The question of the legality of jailbreaking will also deter a lot of people from even attempting it. Thanks for the question.</p>

<div class="blip_description" style="">In this video,  I discuss a big controversy surrounding the act of jailbreaking (hacking) iPhones and iPod Touches from Apple.  In complaint submitted to the Copyright Office as part of the 2009 DMCA triennial rulemaking, Apple states that jailbreaking is illegal.  Apple claims, according the EFF, that &#8220;opening the iPhone to independently created applications will compromise safety, security, and reliability, and swing the doors wide for those who want to run pirated software.&#8221;  I believe this action was coming in light of the recent release of piracy software such as Crackulous.  Apple literally has no choice but to take this stance.  I know a lot of you believe jailbreaking your iPhone is a &#8220;right&#8221; and Apple is in the wrong here, but I believe that they really don&#8217;t have a choice.  Pirates are literally taking money from iPhone/iPod Touch app developer&#8217;s pockets who trusted Apple to protect their products.  Personally, I can live without jailbreaking and was planning to restore my iPhone even before this announcement.  The iTunes App Store has made this easier since before its availability, jailbreaking was almost a must.  Overall, I&#8217;m saddened it has come to this, but like with other software, it&#8217;s the pirates who ruin it for paying customers.  For more information regarding this development, visit the EFF&#8217;s post on it here: http://bit.ly/pjrhG</div>

<div class="blip_description" style="">In this video, I discuss an application which is available for jailbroken phones called ClearCam.  ClearCam is available as a free 15 day trial, but costs $10 to license.    ClearCam has two modes:  QuickShot and Enhance.  QuickShot will rapidly take 4 photos and automatically store the sharpest one in your camera roll.  Enhance combines multiple (6) photos to build a theoretical higher quality (4 megapixel vs 2 megapixel) photo.  The Enhance mode is free to use, but you must activate the trial mode in order to use QuickShot.  Overall, I believe ClearCam to be a useful application, but I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s worth $10.  Enjoy!</div>

<div class="blip_description" style="">In this video, I answer a question that is commonly asked by a lot of users everytime an iPhone or iPod Touch firmware update is released by Apple:  Will I lose my apps after I update?   The question is really two parts.  Part 1 is for devices that haven&#8217;t been jailbroken and part 2 is for those that have.  Unjailbroken devices have their data backed up each time they are synced with iTunes (unless the default settings are changed)  If you update your unjailbroken device, the applications, contacts, songs, and pictures are restored from backup.  So the general answer is no, you will NOT lose your applications on your device if you are not jailbroken.  For those devices that are jailbroken, iTunes will not back up your data so you will not retain all your applications you installed from Cydia.  Each time you update and re-jailbreak, you&#8217;ll need to reinstall applications.  So there&#8217;s your answer regarding applications and updates.  Got questions?  Email help@bwana.tv and I&#8217;ll do my best to address them.</div>

<div class="blip_description" style="">In this video, I address an ongoing concern with jailbreaking problems with the latest Pwnage Tool/QuickPwn and Mac OS X.  This is mainly with the latest revision, 10.5.6.  Apple recently updated their USB drivers in 10.5.6 which hinders the iPhone/iPod Touch from going into DFU mode.  It&#8217;s essentially a bug in the  IOUSBFamily kernel extension.  This news first broke back in December, and many came up with workarounds to downgrade the USB drivers or to simply use a USB hub.  I&#8217;ve personally suggested to my users who have asked to use a USB hub which seemed to address the issue.  Now I&#8217;m not sure why these issues have reached the forefront today, but some believe it may be due to the Quicktime 7.6 update which was released by Apple.  At any rate, my recommendation for those of you on the fence to jailbreak, to wait a few days until the smoke clears from this latest uprising.  If you have Mac OS X 10.5.6 and Quicktime 7.6, and you feel uncomfortable with all these hinderances, I would hold off on jailbreaking.  This is just part of the jailbreaking world and if you can&#8217;t handle it, I suggest you restore back to stock firmware <img src='http://www.bwana.tv/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />   Here are the links I promised in the video:  Gizmodo:  http://bit.ly/TGB5 Apple Forum: http://bit.ly/10vbq</div>
