This is focused on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Titles that I talk about include Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, and Zelda for Wii. I share my thoughts on what I believe were some great exclusives for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 and which platform did better .. IN MY OPINION. This is not fact and I’m sure your opinion will differ. This is why I’m posing the question to you: What were your favorite exclusives for 2009 and why? Lots of speculation involved since some titles aren’t out yet so this is not a scientific method. Keep the console war to a minimum please. Take care!

Bing has had a subtantial growth spurt over the past few months and has been doing cool things with Twitter and real-time search. It’s hard to determine whether Bing will overtake Google (or Yahoo) at this point, but Microsoft has gotten off to a good start. What are you thoughts on Bing? Let us know.

For this special offer, visit www.gotomeeting.com/techpodcasts Sponsor: Try SquareSpace free for 14 days, use the code “bwana” to save 10% on the life of the account www.squarespace.com/?associateTag=bwana In this video, I answer a question from kennyiscool on Twitter – http://twitter.com/kennyiscool who writes:  “Why choose an Xbox 360 Over a PS3?”  Somehow, I knew this question was going to come after my previous video on reasons why to choose a PS3 over a 360.  Well Kenny, here are some, I repeat, SOME, of the reasons why someone would choose an Xbox 360 over a PS3.  1.  An Xbox 360 provides flexible pricing options for new users.  The 360 Arcade starts at just $169 (with deals) and can go all the way up to $399 for an Xbox Elite.  This provides a lot of options who want to enter the platform but want to gradually add accessories and options.  2.  Ease of use with online collaboration.  The Xbox 360, with an Xbox Live Gold account, provides the best interface for online chat, friends management, multi-player game management, voice and the like.  The interfaces provided are polished and well done, but again, require a monthly or yearly fee.  3.  Very Windows friendly home media extensions.  The Xbox 360 ties very well into Windows machines through Windows Media Player, Home Media Center and other programs.  The entire Windows family of products does a lot with the Xbox 360 out of the box.  It also plays well with Microsoft’s online services such as MSN chat, Gamertag features on Xbox.com, Badges and all kinds of other cool stuff.  4.  Netflix support is great on the Xbox 360.  Out of the box, and with an Xbox Live Gold account, you get instant streaming of Netflix movie content.  So these are just some of the reasons why someone would choose an Xbox 360 over a Sony PS3.  Again, I want to stress these are totally subjective and opinionated.  Make a reasonable choice based on your wants, and don’t be pressured into getting a console due to popularity.  Thanks for the question, kenny, and I’m wondering how long will it take for someone to ask about the Wii.  Not long, I bet.

In this video, I answer a question from Ian regarding Onlive and how this will change the gaming culture.  I explain that OnLive provides games via a network connection.  Games are streamed over the network for you to play them.  It is a little box that you can attach to your Mac, PC or television that will enable you to play over the internet.  My opinion is that I don’t believe that OnLive will scale to meet demand.  Thanks to Ian for the question!

In this video,  I answer a question from antgrav concerning updating from Windows XP to Windows 7.  I explain that Windows XP does not have an upgrade path to Windows 7 but Windows Vista does.  I recommend that he save/clone his files off to an external drive so that he can easily restore his documents.  He also asks is it worth putting Windows 7 on his computer.  I explain that he shouldn’t put Windows 7 on his main machine because it’s not the final version.  Thanks to antgrav for the question.

In this video, I answer a question from darkplayer38 regarding his Xbox 360.  He gets an “red ring” error, E74 and is wondering how to fix it.  Unfortunatley, based on my quick research, the fix requires opening the unit and voiding your warranty.  darkplayer38 requested to find a solution that doesn’t require opening the unit, but I couldn’t find one.  We found some articles from Microsoft which give some basic instructions, but nothing definite http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941377 : “# Turn off the console, disconnect all the cables, and then reconnect all the cables. Turn the console back on. # Turn off the console, and then disconnect any accessories that are connected. For example, disconnect any Xbox 360 controllers, Xbox 360 Memory Units, and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. With the accessories disconnected, restart the console to see whether the problem still occurs. This can help you determine whether the console or an accessory is experiencing the problem. If you determine that an accessory is consistently causing the error, try borrowing another accessory of the same type and testing again using that accessory. # If you continue to experience this problem, contact Xbox Customer Service.”  We discussed possibly trading A/V cables with a friend to rule it out.  Also, taking it to Gamestop seemed to be what darkplayer38 wanted.  Thanks for your question, darkplayer38.

In this video, I discuss Google’s recent announcement of iPhone and Windows Mobile devices to their Google Sync service. What differentiates Google Sync from Apple’s MobileMe is that synchronization is done over the air (OTA) and in the cloud.  This has been out for a while for Blackberries and Symbian devices and has been touted as the Android platform’s key feature.  As of now, Google Sync will synchronize your contacts and calendars with your devices, but it won’t synchronize email at this point.  If you do choose to use Google Sync, be sure you back up your contacts and calendars since it may replace the data on your device.  Enjoy! 

In this video, I get another question regarding Windows 7 on my HP Mini 1000.  Coheed, a regular member of our chat room, writes: “I’d like to see you do a followup on your 1050NR Review. Something that shows how Windows 7 is running now, and if you’d choose to go back to Windows XP.”  Since I don’t have a lot of heavy software on the HP Mini, I simply demonstrate various multitasking efforts with the browsers I have installed.  I open a few tabs in Google Chrome and Firefox and play some videos on Youtube and Hulu.  I also launch some Adobe Air applications like Twhirl.  The 2GB of memory I installed on the HP Mini really helps with multitasking, but not necessarily with speed.  I’m satisfied with Windows 7 as it is since everything I want to do on the HP Mini works.  I don’t foresee myself going back to Windows XP until the Windows 7 beta expires in August.  I hope this answers your question, Coheed.  If you have any questions about the HP Mini or any other topic, send an email to help@bwana.tv.  Enjoy!
