I demonstrate it using the iPhone 4, but it can be used with many other mobile devices such as the Kindle, Palm Pre, Blackberry, Samsung Phones, Nokia Phones, HTC, LG, and the Nexus One. The iLevel has a unique flexible neck which has a great range of flexibility and also a very strong tension clamp. Visit http://www.goilevel.com today and you can purchase it for $29.95 for the 8″ unit and $34.95 for the 16″ unit. Thanks goilevel for sending me a review unit.

TechCrunch reported the story here: http://j.mp/46io8s Much like their competitor, Qik, the application gives a interactive experience in that you can preview the stream and participate in the chat. If you have an Android phone, like the T-Mobile G1, you should definitely consider Ustream for your streaming needs. The app looks good.

Twidroid is one of the highest rated Twitter applications on Android Marketplace, which prompted me to try it. I was not disappointed. Twidroid does the basic Twitter functions well. It provides easy access to replies, direct messages, and timelines. New tweets come in via the fantabulous Google Android notification system and allows you to drill down to the appropriate timeline. User functions are there and you can follow, unfollow, show profile, favorite, and send DMs. Twidroid handles pictures fairly well with the integrated camera. Overall, I can see why Twidroid is the top rated Twitter app for Android and I recommend it to G1 owners. Enjoy!

StreamFurious is a free internet radio streaming application for the T-Mobile G1 which allows you to listen to a ton of content. I’m a big fan of internet radio due to all the free content available and its wide variety. One can also create your own streaming radio station! StreamFurious makes the experience simple since you can start a stream, and go to another application and do something else. Streaming radio applications are perfect for running in the background and I’m glad the G1 supports it. If you’re into internet radio, and have or planning to get a T-Mobile G1, then I highly recommend you check out StreamFurious for absolutely no cost! Enjoy!

The Android Marketplace is Google’s answer to the iTunes App Store. Within the marketplace, you’ll find many applications both free and paid sorted by category. I had heard many stories about how much the Android Marketplace lacked applications, but I really didn’t find that to be the case. When compared to the iTunes App Store, sure it has much less, but there’s plenty there for the average consumer. The controls are simple to navigate, applications include a summary and reviews, and the pricing structures seem decent. I was unable to experience the purchasing process since the review unit I have does not allow one to purchase apps, but downloading free apps was a breeze. Every download occurs in the background and notifies you (via the wonderful Android notification system) when it’s complete. I’ve downloaded quite a few apps, and I plan to try many more using the Google Android Marketplace. Enjoy!

Being that this is a Google operating system for mobile phones, it’s not surprising to see a tight integration with Google applications such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Google Talk, Google maps and Youtube. I was happy with the integration of the apps and if you use these programs, I think Google Android will fit your lifestyle well. Overall, I couldn’t find much wrong with the applications and when Cupcake is released, we’ll be able to upload videos to Youtube which will be icing..on…the cupcake. Enjoy.

Thanks to T-Mobile for providing a review unit so that I can share with you all the experience. Size wise, it’s a bit bigger than my iPhone mostly due to the built-in sliding QWERTY keyboard. The very first thing I noticed while using the G1 was that there was a bit of an learning curve in terms of when to use the touch screen and when to use the hardware keys. I also noticed that you have to flip open the keyboard to type since there is currently (prior to Cupcake) no software keyboard. Comfort wise, it’s a bit uncomfortable to type since the bulk of the phone on the right side is a bit weird. It’s a bit unbalanced in terms of weight when you begin to type There is no multi-touch on the G1, but it’s not a deal breaker. I noticed the lack of “acceleration” when “flicking” lists of objects. Again, this is coming from an iPhone’s perspective. One of the best things I loved about Android is the notification system. As you receive notifications from supported apps like Mail, calendar, twitter, etc, you get a nice pull-down menu which shows you a summary of all the notifications. This is killer! I absolutely love it and I foresee it being a standard for a lot of other phones. It’s unmatched. I wish I had it on my iPhone. So that’s all I have in terms of first impressions. When Android Cupcake arrives, I’ll do another review of the OS changes so you can see what has improved. Take care and happy Androiding.

In this video, I get another tip from Roger who writes: “If you download imobilecinema from Cydia it will play 90% of all videos on the internet. Try it yourself, after installing go to MSN.com and play a windows movie. You will have to put in a search in Cydia to find it” Thanks Roger! What a great tip! I also got this tip from other users, but Roger was first to submit. This application is great if you enjoy videos from the web. If you don’t want to be confined to iPhone compatible sites and Youtube, install this Mobile Safari plugin on your jailbroken iPhone to expand your horizon. To install, you first need to install the Cydia source (which can be found via Cydia Search for “iMobileCinema”). Next, install iMobileCinema itself and the SBSettings module. SBSettings will allow you to toggle the plugin on and off very easily. Once you’ve done all these steps, you can experience video on the web the way it behaves on your desktop computer. Unfortunately, not all video sites work with iMobileCinema. I was hoping Hulu.com would work, but it doesn’t Anyway, thanks Roger for this excellent tip! Enjoy!
